In Beaverton, all of our schools are working hard on a site specific digital citizenship plan that is tied to larger district goals.
I think most of us in education are aware of, or have at least heard about, the Maker Movement. A Maker is defined in many ways by many people, but perhaps Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame summed up the maker mentality as good as anyone when he wrote:
Humans do two things that make us unique from all other animals; we use tools and we tell stories. And when you make something, you’re doing both at once.
And Robin Moore, an expert in the design of play and learning environments, notes that:
“We do not learn from experience…we learn from reflecting on experience.”
I was recently in a meeting with Bjorn Paige, principal of ACMA (Arts and Communications Magnet Academy) and Moon Knight aficionado. Over the next two years AMCA students and staff will move to another location while the old building is torn down and rebuilt.
As a child of the 80’s I played with the Rubik’s cube by taking the stickers off and putting them where I though they should go. I tried to spin the sides around, but I was never able to conquer the puzzle.
